Plasma and HD TVs are everywhere. Why not use one in your restaurant? Chances are you already have one in your restaurant and it can be put to better use than showing the news. If you don’t have a TV, it may be a worthwhile investment. What about tablets? Have you thought about using an iPad? TVs and tablets are not just for flashy advertising – they can be used to create strategies to increase sales in restaurant and as an opportunity of contact. Let’s look at what digital signage can be used and how it is an opportunity of contact in your place.

Draw in more customers

Think about how effective fast food advertisements can be. Juicy burgers, exploding with toppings and sauces leave you craving a burger. Why can’t the same be true in for your restaurant? TVs have vibrant colors and movement. Flat screens facing the street encourage more foot traffic. Show enticing photos of your food, advertise specials, and show your social media feeds to let people know what others are saying about your great food. The flat screen TV can do much more than a chalkboard out on the street, and it’s cheaper than hiring someone to stand outside and draw in customers. It is one of the possible ways to promote restaurant. Let your food speak for itself.

Make your menu items more visible

A digital menu not only keeps your customers informed, but it saves you money as well. A digital menu can be updated as often as you change your menu, meaning no more unnecessary printing costs. You can add photos of your food and display information about ingredients and where your food comes from. Wendy’s, an American fast food chain implemented digital menu boards in 2012. They found that 80% of the time, when a specific menu item was advertised on the digital menu board, its sales increased.

Entertain your customers with digital signage

Why not entertain your customers while they wait? Display your own restaurant channel on your TV. You can have your chefs make short videos showing how they prepare certain dishes. 

 

Keep in touch via social media

Social media is an excellent opportunity of contact and your social credibility is a form of advertisement for your restaurant. Promote your social media pages digitally. Show your customers how many ‘likes’ and followers you have already. Encourage them to join the conversation by ‘liking’ you on Facebook or ‘following’ you on Twitter. Display your social media feed live on your TV to show your customers what other people are saying about your restaurant and your food. Let your customers add their posts as well, which can be displayed while they are eating.

 

You can never have too much information

Keep your customers informed. Use digital signage to advertise daily specials. Let your customers know what goes in their food. Post information about your staff, especially your chefs. Let your customers know who is cooking their food. Information is an excellent way of engaging your customer and taking advantage of the many opportunities of contact digital signage provides.

Tablets are the future

A large TV is not suitable for every restaurant. We still want a dining experience that can be free of digital technology, but digital technology isn’t always a bad thing. Tablets are becoming increasingly common in restaurants, in both casual and fine dining establishments. They can hold a wealth of information that is constantly updated, which is something that is just not possible with a traditional paper menu.

Take the wine list, for example. Some restaurants have extensive wine lists, but most of the time you find that servers don’t have the knowledge about all the wines. With a tablet wine list, customers can touch the wine and find out more about the bottle in an instant. You can take out more of the guesswork for customers not so well versed in the grape. Include suggested wine pairings in your menu, or use the tablet to advertise special bottles. Customers are better informed, which can lead to more sales.

Fast and friendly service is the best opportunity of contact. Tablets can also be useful for service staff. Personalised POS systems can be installed on the tablets, that allow servers to instantly input orders. This saves time in the front of house, allowing serves to interact more with customers, ultimately improving the quality of the restaurant experience. Tablet POS systems can be equipped with credit card machines. The bill can be brought to the table and paid for in an instant.
